Ice cream van hire for country shows

A battery-powered ice cream van for agricultural shows, horse shows, dog shows, classic car shows and village fetes.

Country shows are long, outdoor days in fields, with showgrounds full of livestock pens, horse rings, craft tents and families walking between them. Visitors are often on site from morning until late afternoon, and an ice cream van is one of the stops many plan for. For organisers, the van needs to fit into a site plan alongside dozens of other traders.

Our vans are fully electric while serving. The freezers run on batteries with the engine off, with no generator to fuel or place in the traders' row and no exhaust drifting into pens, rings or the craft tent. Being near-silent while serving is helpful near livestock and horses, where sudden noise and fumes are best avoided. It also means visitors in the craft tent or the food hall next door are not breathing in exhaust or listening to an engine.

We cover the Home Counties as well as London: Surrey, Kent, Essex, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Sussex. Showground access can be across fields and tracks, so we ask about ground conditions, trackway and arrival windows when you book. Our insurance, hygiene, NCASS and risk assessment documents are ready for the show secretary. We can also fill in trader application forms if you send them over.

Why our vans suit it

  • Calm near animalsNo engine noise and no exhaust while we serve make the van a better neighbour for livestock pens and horse rings than a van running a generator.
  • Self-contained all dayBattery power keeps the van trading through a long show day without a generator or hook-up.
  • Home Counties coverageWe travel to shows across Surrey, Kent, Essex, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Sussex.
Planning ice cream for country showsPractical tips

01

Check ground and trackway

Showgrounds are often fields. After rain, a van can struggle on soft ground. Ask where trackway is laid and where trader vehicles enter.

02

Arrive before the gates open

Most shows close vehicle movements once visitors arrive. We plan to be parked and set up before the gates open.

03

Stay away from the rings

Position the van away from horse rings and livestock pens, but on a main walkway where visitors pass.

04

Agree the trading terms

Shows usually charge traders a pitch fee or take a share. Let us know the terms when you invite us.

Questions people ask

Can the van get onto a showground field?
Usually, if the ground is firm or trackway is laid. After heavy rain, fields can be too soft for any vehicle. Tell us about the showground and the trader entrance, and we will plan the safest route in. Trackway at the trader gate helps.
Is the van safe near horses and livestock?
While serving, our van makes very little noise and no exhaust, which helps around animals. We still recommend positioning the van away from rings and pens, and we keep the chimes off near animals. Tell us where the rings and pens are on the site plan, and we will agree a position with you.
What documents does the show secretary need?
Shows usually ask for public liability insurance, a food hygiene rating and a risk assessment. We hold £5M public liability insurance, a 5 Star Food Hygiene rating and NCASS membership, and we can send a COSHH assessment and risk assessment as well.
