Ice cream van hire for community events

A friendly ice cream van, with no fumes while we serve, for street parties, estate fun days, council events and neighbourhood celebrations.

Community events are run by people with a lot on their plate. A residents' association organising a street party, a council team planning a family fun day, a tenants' group arranging an estate open day. The ice cream van should be the easy part. You want something that turns up, serves everyone and leaves no mess, noise or paperwork headaches behind.

We have worked with London Borough Councils, so we know the questions event teams ask: insurance, food hygiene, risk assessments and how the van will get on and off a closed road. Our battery-powered serving helps on residential streets. While we serve there is no engine running outside people's front windows and no fumes near prams and pushchairs, and our vans are ULEZ compliant anywhere in London.

An ice cream van also does something useful at a community event: it gives people a reason to stand together for a few minutes. Neighbours who have only ever nodded at each other end up chatting in the queue. Children love the van, and grandparents remember it from their own summers. For an event built on bringing people together, that small shared moment does a lot of the work.

Why our vans suit it

  • Kind to residential streetsA van serving quietly on battery is far more welcome on a closed residential road than a van with its engine on all afternoon.
  • Council experienceWe have worked with London Borough Councils and can provide insurance, hygiene, COSHH and risk assessment documents for event applications.
  • Suits every ageThe menu runs from simple cones and lollies for children to Knickerbocker Glories for adults. Ask us about options for guests with dietary needs and we will tell you what we carry.
Planning ice cream for community eventsPractical tips

01

Sort the road closure or site permission

Street parties usually need a road closure agreed with the council, and parks and estates have their own permissions. Build the van into your application, as the council may want to know about vehicles and food traders.

02

Work out who pays

Some events are funded by a grant or sponsor and serve free ice cream to everyone. Others let residents buy their own. Prepaid tokens are a useful middle ground for a funded event with a budget.

03

Plan the van's route in

Once barriers are up, getting a vehicle onto a closed road needs a steward and a plan. Agree with us where the van enters and parks before the closure starts.

04

Mind the neighbours on the chimes

A short burst of the chimes on arrival tells everyone the van is here. Keep it brief, and think about whether it suits the time of day and the area.

Questions people ask

Do we need permission for an ice cream van at a street party?
If the road is being closed, the council usually handles that through its own street party process, and some councils want to know about food traders. Rules vary by borough. Check with your council when you apply, and we will provide insurance and hygiene documents to support the application.
Can the council or a sponsor pay so ice cream is free for residents?
Yes. A hosted booking means residents simply walk up and order. If the budget is fixed, prepaid tokens let you hand out a set number of ice creams so the cost stays within the grant or sponsorship. Tokens can be handed out by stewards or at a welcome desk.
Can you come to an estate or block of flats?
Usually, provided there is a safe place for the van to park and a route in. Estate roads, car parks and community spaces can work well. Talk to your housing provider or estate management about access first, then tell us what they say.
