The situation
On 30 July 2026 Mercedes-AMG held a staff day for its Formula One team at Brixworth in Northamptonshire, home of Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains. Around 1,000 people were expected across the day, and the organisers wanted ice cream from proper vans as part of it.
Brixworth is well outside London and the Home Counties we usually cover, so this was a booking we travelled for.
The challenge
A thousand people is a big number for any dessert service, and a staff day is not a festival where people drift past over a whole weekend. Staff come out in waves around their breaks, so the van has to cope with a rush and then keep the pace up.
It is also a working engineering site. Corporate sites like this expect suppliers to arrive with their paperwork in order and to fit around the site's own rules, rather than the other way round.
Our approach
We sent two vans, the red one and the cream one, so there were two serving hatches working at the same time and the queue was split in half from the start. Both vans are fully electric while serving, which meant no engine running and no fumes beside the people queueing, on a site where that matters.
Our insurance, hygiene rating, risk assessments and COSHH documentation are ready to send for every booking, so they can be with the organiser well before the day.
The outcome
Two ice cream vans served the Mercedes-AMG Formula One staff day at Brixworth, with around 1,000 people on site. Staff kept coming back between breaks, and the Mercedes-AMG team told us they were delighted with how the day went. Mercedes-AMG is now one of the brands we name alongside Red Bull, Black Pride Festival and London's borough councils.
If you are planning a staff day of this size, the main decision is how many hatches you need open at once. Tell us your headcount and how the breaks are staggered, and we will tell you honestly whether one van or two is right.
