Queue management
Definition
Queue management means planning how guests line up and are served so waits stay short and the queue does not block paths or other activities.
A queue at an ice cream van can build quickly, especially when an announcement sends everyone at once. Good queue management starts with the pitch: open space in front of the hatch, a clear direction for the line, and nothing the queue will block, such as a fire exit or a stage.
The menu matters too. A shorter menu with fast items such as wrapped lollies and slush keeps things moving at peak times, while built-to-order items suit quieter moments. Prepaid tokens remove payment from the hatch altogether. For schools, staggering year groups or classes is often the simplest fix. Tell us how many guests to expect and when, and we will plan service around it.
