Food hygiene rating
Definition
A food hygiene rating is the score from 0 to 5 that a council gives a food business after inspection. 5 means hygiene standards are very good.
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is run by the Food Standards Agency with local councils in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. An environmental health officer inspects how food is handled, the condition of the premises and how food safety is managed, then gives a rating from 0, urgent improvement necessary, to 5, very good. Scotland runs its own scheme with different results.
Mobile caterers, including ice cream vans, are inspected by the council where they are registered. Ratings are published online, so you can look up any business before booking. Kreamy Delights holds a 5 Star Food Hygiene rating, the top score. We are happy to share our food safety documents with organisers and councils on request.
